Storm Lake at Carroll
Carroll 53
Storm Lake 20
Carroll picked up win number four on the season as they cruised past Storm Lake in a Saturday afternoon match up.
Josie Ayala got it started for the Tigers in the first quarter, draining four buckets for eight points to lead her team in that quarter. Ava Gross off the bench also had a strong showing in the first quarter, drawing the foul and draining the and one for three points. The Tigers with their consistent scoring and strong defense took the 15-1 lead going into the second quarter. The Tigers continued to impress in the second quarter as Ayala and Gross shared the scoring duties, adding four points each to the Tigers total. Storm Lake’s struggles scoring allowed Carroll to stay on top going into halftime with a 26-5 lead.
The start of the second half for both teams was a little slow, with Carroll still holding the scoring advantage in the third quarter, scoring eight points compared to Storm Lake’s six points. Kelsie Reicks had a big quarter as she pulled up from three and made it and led the team in that quarter with five points. The fourth quarter once again was all Carroll as the Tigers subbed in some of their bench players who got some good points on the board. Shayne Aschinger grabbed a three pointer and Mackenzie Johnson recorded four points. A big reason why Carroll succeeded in this game was their rebounds and ability to drive in the lane to score layups and short floaters. Head Coach Katie Kock told Carroll Broadcasting following the game that while she’s happy her team got the win,she feels the foul trouble in the first half was too much and their scoring abilities can continue to improve. The Tigers went 16-9 in the fourth quarter to round out a great night as they won 53-20 over Storm Lake.
Individually for the Tigers, Ayala led the team with 12 points, Gross added 10 to the board, and Kelsie Reicks was a nice surprise off the bench scoring eight points for the Tigers. Carroll improves to 4-1 on the season and will take on Witnerset to start off their week of action on Tuesday, December 14th.
