The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) is partnering with law enforcement agencies across Iowa to support the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) annual Click It or Ticket high-visibility enforcement campaign from May 18 through May 31. The campaign focuses on increasing seatbelt use through public awareness and enforcement. Officials say seatbelts remain the most effective way to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. According to the GTSB, 121 people killed in Iowa traffic crashes in 2025 were not wearing seatbelts. Those unrestrained occupants accounted for 47 percent of all traffic fatalities in the state last year. City, county, and state law enforcement agencies are joining in the effort to reduce roadway deaths and injuries through education, enforcement, and federally funded safety programs.
