David J. Wolterman was born on February 13, 1950, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Merle and Dorothy (Scott) Wolterman. He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1968. He was drafted during the Vietnam War in June of 1970 and was stationed in South Korea for 14 months until he was honorably discharged from active duty in 1972. He returned home and was united in marriage to Alice Meister on October 6, 1973. They made their home in Carroll and were blessed with two children: Laura & Tony. He decided to become a painting contractor and started his business of Wolterman Painting in the mid 80’s. He owned the business for 40 years before retiring in 2019.

Dave was a cowboy at heart and enjoyed riding horses in his free time with his kids, grandchildren, and many friends. Venturing from Coon Rapids to Wyoming he and his family would camp and take to the trails. He especially enjoyed taking phone calls with his brother Ron and making their own trails. Dave always enjoyed being with family and friends; whether it was going for breakfast with the guys on Saturday mornings, going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, or relaxing with his wife in his La-Z-Boy. In his last moments, Dave passed peacefully surrounded by those he loved.

Dave is survived by his wife Alice Wolterman; children: Laura (Ryan) Schroeder, Tony (Jennifer) Wolterman; Five favorite grandchildren: Parker Klocke, Addison Klocke, Briella Klocke, Owen Klocke, Caden Klocke; Stepbrother: Paul (Becky) Tranter; Sisters-in-law: Shirley (Bob) Snyder, Nicky (Robert) McQuirk, Ellen Wolterman.

Dave was preceded by his parents Merle & Dorothy Wolterman; Stepfather: Lawrence Tranter; Brother, Ron Wolterman; and his parents-in-law, Norbert and Annie Meister.

The Wolterman family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to St. Anthony Memory Care Unit and St. Anthony Hospice for their exceptional care for Dave and their friendship to the family.
