NHTSA Uses DST Shift To Remind Iowans To Check Their Vehicle For Recalls

As Americans prepare to “spring forward” for the Daylight Saving Time adjustment, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is reminding Americans to do a quick check for open recalls on their vehicles. The notice coincides with National Vehicle Safety Recalls Week, which runs from March 2 through March 8. According to NHTSA staff, there were nearly 1,000 separate recalls for vehicles and associated equipment, impacting more than 29 million automobiles. Approximately 745,000 car seats and 145,000 tires were recalled last year for various reasons, including manufacturing errors, design deficiencies, or material contamination. Repairs for official recalls are free at authorized dealerships, and NHTSA recommends vehicle owners not postpone corrective repairs if they receive a recall notice. Drivers can check for open recalls using NHTSA’s online lookup tool by entering a vehicle identification number or license plate number, and a link to that tool is included with this story on our website. Motorists can also register for NHTSA’s SaferCar app, which automatically checks for recalls and sends a notification if one is issued.
