Boil Advisory Lifted For Five SW Iowa Counties; Water Use Restriction Remain In Effect

The Regional Water Rural Water District has lifted the Boil Advisory that was implemented on May 25 for five southwest Iowa counties. However, mandatory water usage restrictions remain in effect for Avoca Treatment Plant Distribution System customers. These restrictions are necessary to address ongoing system pressure issues caused by the drought and reduced water availability. Affected areas include Shelby, Audubon, Cass, Harrison, and northern Pottawattamie Counties, encompassing the communities of Avoca, Portsmouth, Westphalia, Kirkman, Tennant, Panama, Earling, Exira, Persia, and Brayton. All municipal, residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial users must participate in mandatory water use reduction measures to conserve water. These include not watering lawns, washing cars, filling private pools, cleaning streets, and other high-volume activities. The Regional Water Office is actively working with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to address this situation. Customers can contact the rural water provider directly by calling 712-343-2413 for more information.
