A recent study from the University of Wisconsin County Health Rankings and Roadmaps program shows Guthrie and Carroll Counties are some of the healthiest in the state. The County Health Ranking and Roadmaps Program considers several factors, including access to healthcare, individual behaviors such as smoking and exercise, and social and economic factors like education and employment when determining a county’s rating. Of Iowa’s 99 counties, Guthrie County ranked 19th based on those metrics, followed by Carroll County at 22nd, Sac County at 37th, Greene County at 54th, Crawford County at 62nd, Audubon County at 74th, and Calhoun County at 75th. While these rankings provide valuable insights into the health of these Iowa counties, local officials acknowledge that there is still work to be done to improve overall health outcomes. Overall, the rankings provide a valuable tool for communities to assess their work toward improving outcomes for their residents. Sioux County in northwest Iowa landed the top spot as the healthiest, and Montgomery County in southwest Iowa came in at 99th. A link to the University of Wisconsin’s full dataset is included below.
