Authorities Release Details Of Fiery Wednesday Crash Near Arcadia

Authorities have released the details of a fiery crash from earlier this week. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the single-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Wednesday evening in the 21000 block of Delta Avenue about 2.5 miles south of Arcadia. Authorities say a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 44-year-old Michael Eugene Hamilton of Sac City, was traveling southbound when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer and overcorrected. The Jeep struck a field drive and slid before colliding with a power pole. The vehicle caught on fire after coming to rest facing west and was completely destroyed in the blaze. Damage to the MidAmerican Energy-owned pole is estimated at $3,000. The fire spread into the ditch for several hundred feet south of the crash site but did not result in significant damage. Hamiliton was uninjured, but he was cited for driving while license denied, suspended or revoked and failure to maintain control.
