Frederick Obmann of Rural Breda

Frederick Verner Obmann, age 84, of rural Breda, IA passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Twilight
Acres in Wall Lake, IA.  Fred, otherwise known as Fritz, was born May 22, 1936 to Verner and Dorothy (Rose) Obmann of Breda, IA. He was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake on May 24, 1936 and was later confirmed there on April 2, 1950.  Fred graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1954.  After obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree at Iowa State University, he came back to the farm.
Fritz enjoyed polka music and going to old time dances where he met his wife.  On April 15, 1963 Fred was united in marriage to Marilyn Witt of Denison, IA. The two
resided on the farm south of Wall Lake where they lived and raised their family for 57 years. They were blessed with two children, Lynnette, and Dennis.
Fred’s passion was faith, family, fun, and farming. He loved having an operation that he shared with his father, his wife, and later his son and grandchildren. His entire family helped on the farm.  He knew how to make work fun by throwing pig tales or squirting milk and often he would take the time to have a snack, laugh, and talk and a few polka lessons in the living room. Fred told the grandkids that polka music was “hay cutting music”.  Fritz often had tears of joy while he sang a song in church, or at his
grandchildren’s baptisms, as he cherished the importance of that day. He, with Marilyn, enjoyed going to their special activities and events. Teaching his grandkids all sorts of things brought him great joy. Life lessons were taught around experiences and
conversations on the farm, including those about sickness, grief, and the circle of life, and how he wanted us all to be on this day. Four-Wheeler rides, chasing rabbits,
swinging in the laundry baskets, and taking kids to Iowa State games were just a few of the simple things his grandkids enjoyed with Fritz. Although one might often experience Fred’s humorous comments and teasing, he was a man of few words who taught
lessons in subtle ways. When asked if he was concerned about how the weather might impact the crop, he would say, “I’ll get what I am supposed to have” trusting that God provides for our needs. That is a good lesson for us all.  Although the bench he sat on with Marilyn is empty, our hearts are full of memories and lessons for living and we trust in knowing where they sit today.
Left to cherish his memory include his daughter Lynnette Aschinger and husband Craig of Wall Lake, IA, son Dennis and wife Cindy of Breda, IA; six grandchildren: Kyle
Obmann, Cody Obmann (significant other Madi Lingle), Korey Obmann, Trevor
Aschinger, Derek Aschinger (special friend Hannah Hansen), and Jennifer Aschinger; sisters Linda (Larry) Lasher of Glidden, IA, and Joyce (Gary) Schroeder of Manning, IA; many nieces, nephews, and their families; other extended family members and many friends.
Fred was preceded into death by his wife Marilyn, parents Dorothy and Verner Obmann, and his in-laws Ida and Emil Witt.
We wish to extend our gratitude to our family and friends for all the thoughts, prayers, and support you have given us during this difficult time.                                                          ~ The family of Fred Obmann
