Legacy Gifts Represent The Depth Of Importance The Manning Library Holds In The Community

The Manning Public Library continues to make strides in fundraising efforts to assist with the cost of expansion. Library Director, Linda Muhlbauer, announced they have received more than $85,000 in pledges since the campaign went public on Feb. 4. “We are so grateful and fortunate to have the financial support we’ve received so far,” Muhlbauer says. “This isn’t just an investment in the library, it’s an investment in the entire community.” Three recent donations share a common thread, they were made in memory of a loved one. Two of those were received recently. Nearly 40 members of the Dan Weller family were joined by friends, and classmates in a legacy gift for an avid reader who passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease in January. “Dan would be so proud to know his memorial gifts are supporting the library’s expansion efforts,” says his sister, Val Saltsgaver. “He spent a lot of time at the library, especially after he moved to Accura five years ago. Reading gave him great joy and often took his mind off his many struggles with Parkinson’s.” The second gift is in memory of Joan Bauer, who passed away last September due to complications from COVID-19. “Grandma passed away during an unprecedented time and in an unconventional way. We felt like we missed the opportunity to be at her bedside and tell her what a difference she made in our lives,” says one of Bauer’s 15 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, Kari Nuzback. “This is an excellent way to honor her memory, her love for and her passion for education.” The floorplans and designs for renovation of the former Caleris building on north Main Street will be shared with the public soon. Donations are still being accepted and more information on how to make one can be found below.
