Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) in Lake City was recently presented the 2021 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s best hospitals for obstetrics. Jenni Macke, SMCH Manager of Obstetrics, says they are excited and honored to receive this recognition for the fifth time since 2013. “The birth of a baby is a magical time. I have helped mothers in labor and delivery for 26 years, and I still love the anticipation and birth experience,” Macke says. “Dr. Derek Duncan and Dr. Susan Hornback are extremely knowledgeable, caring and compassionate as they welcome babies into the world and it is a pleasure to work with them.” Macke adds that the nurses have bedside techniques to aid in delivery and the board-certified anesthetists play a critical role in comfort solutions and pain management. Approximately 400 hospitals nationwide receive the Women’s Choice Award that considers female patient satisfaction data, clinical excellence and feedback from women on what they want from a hospital in making their final award determinations. CEO, Cindy Carstens, says those factors come from the organizational vision of transforming the health of their communities through coordinated care and exceptional services. “We are proud to receive this recognition as feedback provided from the women we serve validates that our team provides that exceptional experience to all our patients every day. Our services do not end with the delivery of the baby, but continue throughout the lifetime of our patients,” she adds.
