A Carroll man arrested near the beginning of November on allegations of lottery fraud now faces two felony counts in District Court for Carroll County. According to trial information filed Wednesday, 29-year-old Joshua Michael Hoffman is charged with one count of Iowa Lottery theft and one count of second-degree theft, both class D felonies. A Carroll Police Department investigation shows Hoffman had fraudulently played and cashed out InstaPlay tickets totaling $2,204 while employed at Sparky’s One Stop in the 400 block of U.S. Highway 30 from Oct. 1 through 11. His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10. Each class D felony is punishable by up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
