Run–And Walk–For Your Life, And For The Fun Of It, At Saturday’s Monster Dash

After the COVID-driven cancellation of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce’s annual Color Run last summer, the team brainstormed about ideas for an event that did not require close contact but would still give families the opportunity for a fun outing. Program Director, Ashley Schable, says the idea they landed on, The Monster Dash Fun Run/Walk, will be taking place this Saturday, Oct. 24 at Swan Lake State Park. “The event is less about your 10-minute mile and more about celebrating fall outdoors with some clever and creative twists around every corner of the trail,” she says. Registration will open at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Swan Lake State Park East Shelter House, which is also where participants will end their run or walk. The Lil’ Frankenstein dash for those five and under will kick-off the race at 8:45 a.m. There is a staggered start time and runners and those wishing to time themselves will begin at 9 a.m. All others will start at 9:05 a.m. Runners and walkers will traverse the Sauk Rail Trail, traveling through three sponsored “Spooktacular Zones” which feature Halloween-related fun for everyone. Event shirts and goodie bags are reserved for those who registered early and can be picked up Thursday and Friday at the Chamber office between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Registration now and on the day of the race is $30 for adults and $20 for children six through 12. Ages five and under are free. T-shirts will not be guaranteed for these later registrations. A link to register online can be found below.
