Region XII Council of Governments is continuing their effort to expand access to affordable housing in their service region with the construction of new senior duplexes in Glidden. According to Local Assistance Director, Chris Whitaker, Region XII will serve as the developer and landlord for the two proposed buildings, which are estimated to cost approximately $630,000.
Last week, the Glidden City Council held a public hearing on the proposed gift of two parcels of land, one on Dakota Street and the other on West 2nd Street. City officials did not receive any comments and approved the donation. With the sites now secured, Whitaker says the can begin planning for the duplexes’ construction.
Whitaker adds they hope to have the units occupied no later than June of 2021. According to Housing Programs Coordinator, Karla Janning, they have a specific demographic in mind for future tenants.
Affordable housing in rural communities has been a top concern for Region XII in recent years. Whitaker says the Glidden Senior Duplexes are just another example on a growing list of projects that are nearing completion.
That region includes Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie and Sac Counties. For more information on Region XII, follow the link included below.
