As the Carroll County Courthouse remains closed to the general public, the supervisors are working to get a document in place covering employee leave policy updates as mandated in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, first wanted to ensure the supervisors realize what they are working to produce is not tied to the decision made during the first week of the shutdown on the transition to essential workers only or employee pay.
This would also address the leave required of any person caring for someone infected with COVID-19. Chair, Rich Ruggles, says obviously, there are extenuating circumstances everywhere. There is a fine line, he says in following the policy as closely as possible, but some of these circumstances are not covered there. For example, one employee he believes is at high risk and should not necessarily be working in the building at this time. Dean Schettler says that a copy from a policy from Winnebago County does cover that.
The act has been detailed and mandated by the government, but Irlbeck had been researching policies from other counties. She believes the Winnebago one does a better job of providing the details she would need to pass along to the employees when questions arise. This would be subject to change. Gene Meiners agrees, saying it removes some of the gray areas. Neil Bock thought it was a tad repetitive.
Irlbeck will be working to bring the document back for review at their next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 at 2 p.m. or on Friday, April 17 at 2 p.m. Both of those meetings can be accessed via the county’s YouTube channel, a link to which can be found with below. Anyone wishing to submit questions or comments on the agenda items can do so by email at supervisors@carrollcountyiowa.org or by creating a YouTube account and subscribing to the county’s channel.
