The Wall Lake Public Library is inviting everyone to a free presentation with the founder of the World Giraffe Alliance and her story to helping the gentle giants. On Monday at 6 p.m., Michelle Mattingly will tell her story of the creation of the World Giraffe Alliance and the work that the organization has done so far to protect these animals from what is called the “silent extinction”, as it doesn’t get as much attention as other animals that are reported to be endangered. In the past 30 years, 40 percent of the world’s giraffe population has disappeared according to a statistic found on the World Giraffe Alliance website, largely due to the destruction of their habitat and poaching. Mattingly will discuss the start of the organization, the building of the team and how individuals right here in Iowa can do to help. Again, everyone is welcome to attend the free presentation about the World Giraffe Alliance this upcoming Monday starting at 6 p.m. at the Wall Lake Public Library.
