Leonard Francis “Boomer” Kitt
Leonard “Boomer” Kitt, age 82, of Dedham, died Friday, February 21, 2020, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be by Cindy Bauer, and the St. Joseph’s Choir. Mass Servers will be Jake Smith and Cooper Smith. Lectors will be Pam Kitt and Rachel Kitt. Gift Bearers will be Boomer’s Grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Boomer’s Grandsons: Luke Heller, Jonah Kitt, Corey Kitt, Tony Kitt, Colton Kitt, and Hunter Kitt. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Monday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30p.m.
The casket will be moved to St. Joseph’s Church on Tuesday morning where visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

Leonard was born on September 18, 1937 in Dedham, Iowa. He was the son of Herman & Gertrude (Mattes) Kitt. He attended St. Joseph’s School in Dedham and graduated from Carroll High School in 1955.
Leonard worked road construction for a few years where he earned the nickname ‘Boomer’ for the heavy equipment he operated. He then worked as a farm hand for Marcellus Heithoff in Verndale, Minnesota. In 1958 he started working for ‘Werner Meat Processing’ in Dedham.
On November 16, 1963 Leonard married Theresa Liewer, daughter of Norbert & Marie (Reicks) Liewer of Willey, Iowa. They were married at St. Mary’s Church in Willey and settled in Dedham.
In April 1964, Leonard and Theresa purchased ‘Werner Meat Processing’. They then incorporated as ‘Kitt’s Meat Processing’. In January of 2002, they sold it to son David & Shawn Kitt, and retired.
Leonard enjoyed hunting, raising pigeons, bird watching, playing slow pitch, coaching his boys in slow pitch. He also enjoyed going to grandkids activities.
Leonard was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, former city councilman, former school board member, and a lifetime member of Dedham Booster Club.
Leonard is survived by his wife: Theresa (Liewer) Kitt of Dedham, his sons: Brian (Kim) Kitt of Omaha, Mark (Shari) Kitt of Dedham, David (Shawn) Kitt of Audubon, Dan Kitt of Grimes, Chris (Pam) Kitt of Grimes, Scott (Rachel) Kitt of Ankeny, Tom (Erica) Kitt of Earlham; his grandchildren: Amber (Colin) McMahon, Corey (Lori fiancé) Kitt, Tony Kitt, Michaela (Brandon fiancé) Kitt, Sarah Kitt, Emily Kitt, Luke Heller, Jonah Kitt, Ravyn Kitt, Tori Kitt, Hunter Kitt, Riley Kitt, Sydney Kitt, Colton Kitt, Caleb Kitt, Kaiden Kitt, and Kennedy Kitt. Also surviving is his siblings: Evelyn Bennier of Vancouver, WA and Eugene (Carol) Kitt of Carroll; a sister-in-law, Mary Rose (Merle) Lenz of Elkhorn, NE; and a Dear Cousin: Dr. Ken (Karen) Heithoff of Minneapolis, MN; as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by: his parents: Herman and Gertrude Kitt; parents-in-law: Norbert and Marie Liewer; brother: Norbert (Velma) Kitt and brothers-in-law: Jim Bennier, Francis (Jacque) Liewer, and Duane Liewer
