Three Months Have Passed Since Rep. King Was Stripped Of Committee Assignments, But He Says He Hasn’t Been Sitting Idly By

It has been about three months since Iowa Fourth District Representative, Steve King, was stripped of committee assignments, but he says he has not been sitting idly by during that time. In January, the New York Times reported King defended white supremacy and quoted him as saying, “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” King still denies he ever made this comment and says the data supports this.

In response to public outcry over the report, House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy, removed King from all committees in the 116th Congress, including the House Judiciary and Agriculture Committees. King believes the move was unjustified, and is working to reverse the decision.

According to King, he is now using the time that would have been spent on committees to focus on what he sees as the biggest problems currently facing Iowans: foreign trade deals and flood recovery.

King says he is continuing to advance legislation on other issues important to Iowans. He recently proposed an amendment to the National Labor Revisions Act, which would remove compulsory union membership in the workplace. King, a staunch opponent of illegal immigration, notes many people in the country illegally are here on visa overstays. He is advocating for an e-bonding system that would place an up to $10,000 hold on applicants’ credit cards that would be released after they return to their home country. King made his comments while traveling through the district on Thursday. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more from King in upcoming broadcasts.
