Kuemper Catholic High School has claimed the final 2A Bank Iowa Traveling Challenge Cup. This win marks the seventh time in the last 10 years that the Knights have been recognized for their success in academics, athletics and the fine arts. Since 2007, Bank Iowa monitors the yearly performances of members of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, Iowa High School Music Association and Iowa High School Speech Association. Winning schools are presented $2,000 and a trophy. Kuemper accumulated 1,275 points in the 2017-18 school year, finishing nearly 250 points ahead of second-place Denver High School in Class 2A. “We are grateful for all of the hard work from our students, staff, coaches and the entire Kuemper Family for making this award possible,” says Activities Director, Ryan Isgrig. Bank Iowa is ending the program after a decade of recognizing excellence. Rather than hold an assembly this year, the Kuemper Charger Journalism and Media Production Club created a video to celebrate their final Bank Iowa win, which can be found included with this story. Another local school, Audubon, finished in second behind St. Albert in Class 1A.
