The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) will be hosting hundreds of physicians, public health professionals, social workers and advocates later this week for the Iowa HIV, STD, and Hepatitis Conference in Des Moines. The two-day conference will take place at the Des Moines Holiday Inn Conference Center on June 27 and 28 and focuses on celebrating medical advances in the field and examining what areas still need improvement. According to the IDPH, there are an estimated 3,000 Iowans living with HIV and approximately 13 percent of which are undiagnosed. From 2016 to 2017, gonorrhea cases increased by 45 percent and more than 400 individuals under the age of 40 were diagnosed with Hepatitis C. President and CEO of AIDS United, Jesse Milan, is the keynote speaker and will discuss ending the HIV epidemic in the United States.
