Greene County Students Getting Lesson In Environmental Sustainability With Tree Plantings

Eighth-grade students from Greene County Community School will begin working with Alliant Energy and Trees Forever to plant 34 trees in Jefferson. The hands-on lesson about trees and the environment was made possible through a $2,500 grant from Alliant Energy and Trees Forever. “This is a great example of how Branching Out is helping communities in our service area,” says Iowa’s Alliant Energy President, Doug Kopp. “We’re proud that over the last 30 years, this program has planted more than a million trees and reduced more than 59 million tons of carbon dioxide.” Four of the trees will be planted on the Greene County Community School campus today (Wednesday) then on Friday, May 5, the students will plant the remaining 30 trees along Madison Street. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.
