The Kuemper Music Department is kicking off fundraising efforts tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon for next year’s band and chorus trip by cleaning cars. Students are hosting a car wash in the Carroll Bomgaars’ parking lot from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Band Director, Katie Tomaszkiewicz, says drivers can get their car cleaned for free and still help fund the trip.
She adds it is important people know that they are contributing, even if they do not donate directly. Kuemper sends students to a music-themed location once every three years. Tennessee was the destination in 2016, and Boston has been chosen for the next trip in 2019. Tomaszkiewicz says the value of these excursions cannot be overstated.
While in Boston, the band and choir will participate in a professional clinic with the Boston Symphony, perform at different locations around the city and get the chance to visit some of Boston’s historic landmarks. The cost for the trip is estimated at approximately $1,400 per person. Other fundraisers planned for later this year include selling discount cards for local businesses and a community dinner.
