Sac County high speed chase ends with engine trouble & minor injuries

On Friday afternoon, March 18, a man on a motorcycle led authorities from the Sac County Sheriff’s office on a high speed chase which ended with engine trouble and minor injuries. The pursuit began at around 3:30 pm that afternoon when authorities from the Sac County Sheriff’s office clocked 46 year-old Anthony Jon Bachman driving 80 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 196 about 7 miles south of Sac City. Authorities then pursued the 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle Bachman was driving, but he refused to stop for law enforcement and continued south to Breda and into Carroll County.

Bachman continued west through Breda where members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s office joined the pursuit, and about 1 mile west of M-68 Bachman experienced engine problems which then allowed deputies to take him into custody. Bachman, however, struggled with authorities during the time of his arrest, and a deputy from the Carroll County Sherriff’s office used a Taser to help subdue him. During the struggle Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure and Deputy Tory Cudaback received minor injuries; neither requiring medical attention.

Following Bachman’s arrest he was booked into the Sac County jail on an $8,100 bond. He was charged with eluding and two counts of assault on peace officers; all aggravated misdemeanors. Bachman was also charged with driving while revoked, a serious misdemeanor, various speed and stop sign violations, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Bachman posted bond the following day and was released.
