Carroll Council Will Review Street Maintenance Facility Bids And Consider US. 30 Corridor And Retail Plan Monday

The word “new” could be deemed the theme for Monday’s Carroll City Council meeting. Members will be reviewing bids for a new mower and a new street maintenance facility, consider implementation of a new U.S. Highway 30 Corridor Plan and Retail Recruitment agreement, review a proposal for a new website as well as discuss setting a public hearing date for the purpose of entering into a new franchise agreement with MidAmerican Energy. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says bids came in from four contractors for the construction of a new street maintenance facility on E. 3rd Street, adjacent to the current building, but one had to be rejected because the required forms were not submitted.

The bid included a total of 11 alternates, and Pogge-Weaver says they will be recommending two of these be added to the project.

With testing, contingencies and design fees, the total construction price is just over $5.11 million, under the budgeted $5.12 million. Construction could begin as early as about 30 days after the bid is awarded and is expected to take around a year. Ideas to shore up the retail environment in Carroll will also be brought to the council for review and consideration of approval.

The second component is looking through a national lens and seeing how retailers can be attracted to Carroll. The council will be presented with two bids for a new fairway mower and a proposal from Fusebox Marketing on creating a new website that will bring all city services, including the Rec Center and library, into one main online location. Monday’s meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. and can be viewed on local access cable or digitally by utilizing the log-on details included with the agenda and packet of materials.
