Iowa AG Bird Joins Missouri, Arkansas In Suing Biden Administration Over Title XI Revisions

Today (Tuesday), Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird joined 20 other states in filing a lawsuit against the Biden Administration over its revisions to the longstanding Title IX protections for women. Now included in the revised Title IX regulations are new protections for LGBTQ+ students, most notably the addition of transgender students as a protected class. According to Bird, the Biden Administration’s mandate removes protections for girls in preschool through college, requiring them to share private facilities with males. Additionally, schools are banned from inquiring about a student’s sex, allowing students to use restrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity. The rule applies to all federally funded schools in Iowa, with the threat of funding cuts for non-compliance. Bird says, “Biden is destroying a long tradition of protecting girls in schools. With Biden’s radical gender ideology mandate, he has not only robbed young women of the opportunity to safely compete and succeed in the sports they love, he has violated their privacy. No schoolgirl should be forced to change next to or share shower spaces with boys. I am suing to stop Biden’s war on women and protect girls in schools.” The lawsuit argues that the new rule violates the original intent of Title IX and the Administrative Procedure Act. Iowa joined the Arkansas and Missouri-led suit, along with Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and can be found included with this story on our website.
