AARP Announces Effort To End Overcharges On Prescription Drugs

The AARP has announced a new nationwide campaign, Stop Rx Greed, aimed at lowering prescription drug prices. “Americans are paying the highest prescription drug prices in the world,” says Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer, Nancy LeaMond. “It’s time for pharmaceutical companies to stop deflecting blame and acknowledge that the root cause is the price they set for their products.” The AARP conducted a national survey of likely voters 50 and older. They found a significant amount showed concerns about the high price of drugs and bipartisan support of common-sense policies to lower prices. The campaign will include nationwide television, radio and digital ads, editorial content, emails to members, social media posts, ongoing advocacy and grassroots activity in Washington, D.C. as well as at the state level. They will also be distributing a petition for Congress and the Administration to take action now. Over the past several months, the Iowa AARP has been working closely with Senator Chuck Grassley, who is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and his staff to collect stories of Iowans impacted by escalating prescription drug prices.
