UPDATE-Only Minor Injuries Reported In Near Head-On Collision Near Scranton Wednesday

Editor’s Note: A previous version incorrectly stated Symans had been cited. The story has been edited to reflect that correction.

Two people were transported for treatment following a near head-on collision near Scranton Wednesday morning. At approximately 11:52 a.m., the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Highway 30 and H Avenue. According to law enforcement, a 1991 Dodge W250, driven by Steven Murphy, of Jefferson, was traveling eastbound on the highway when he blew a driver-side front tire, which pulled him into the opposite lane. Murphy avoided a head-on accident but still struck the rear driver-side panel of a westbound 2004 Chevrolet K3500, driven by James Symans of South Dakota. Symans was hauling a camper that became disconnected during the accident, coming to rest blocking eastbound and westbound traffic. The drivers were transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for suspected minor injuries. Murphy was cited for failure to maintain control, and both vehicles were deemed total losses. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Jefferson Fire Department.
