Man Who Stole From Vehicles Parked At Christmas Concert Pleads Guilty And Is Sentenced To Prison Time

A 20-year-old Waukee man has been sentenced to up to five years in prison on felony theft charges. Jake Allen Cretsinger was sentenced Thursday, Oct. 11 in Carroll County District Court on the class D felony, second-degree theft charges that stemmed from an incident in Coon Rapids last December. Cretsinger pled guilty in lieu of a jury trial that was slated to begin next Tuesday. The criminal complaint says Cretsinger broke into a number of vehicles parked outside the United Methodist Church for a Christmas concert on Dec. 3. He stole almost $4,000 and did an estimated $575 in damages. In addition to the prison sentence, Cretsinger has had over $1,000 in fines and surcharges suspended, but has been ordered to pay restitution of more than $5,000. This sentence is to be served concurrently with a Greene County case, in which Cretsinger entered a guilty plea in April. He was also sentenced to up to five years on charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure or provoke fear, going armed with intent and carrying weapons. Those charges stem from another incident on Dec. 3 in which Cretsinger and 19-year-old Adam Stilson of Waukee were involved in an altercation in Jefferson. According to authorities, the two men were traveling with a woman from Coon Rapids to Jefferson when a fight broke out at their destination. The two men reportedly fired a 9 mm weapon into the air and at the other group of individuals. No one was injured in the incident, but a vehicle parked in the area had both driver’s side tires flattened by the rounds.
