Carroll Public Library Invites Residents To Learn More About The Amish And Their Way Of Life

When most people think of the Amish, horse-drawn carriages, bonnets and an absence of modern technology come to mind, but according to two former teachers, there is a lot more to them than meets the eye. Next week, Don and Dianne Kramer, of Dyersville, will examine the many intricacies of the reclusive people’s unique way of life with an educational seminar, “Our Neighbors, the Amish.” Don and Dianne have performed a significant amount of research on their culture and will talk about their many interactions with the Amish communities in eastern Iowa. They will review the key tenets of their beliefs, the well-known rite of passage for Amish teens, called Rumspringa, how they communicate and much more. The two-hour program is designed for all ages and begins at 6 p.m. in the Carroll Public Library’s temporary location at 425 Highway 30 West on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
