Northey Says Dry Weather Needed For Fieldwork To Begin In Earnest

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, says that warm and dry weather are needed before widespread field work can get underway. The most recent USDA National Agricultural Statistical Service Iowa Crop Progress and Condition report showed that last week’s rains abated at the end of the week, allowing many Iowa producers to get in some field work and fertilizer application for an estimated 1.8 days. Seventeen percent of the State’s expected oat crop has now been planted, but it is still falling about one week behind the five-year average. Northey added, “We are also seeing very good spring growth of the cover crops that were planted last fall.” The weekly report is available through the links included below.
