Earlier this week, Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) Auxiliary volunteers were honored for their service and commitment to the award-winning hospital. Nearly 60 members attended the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon that had a theme of, “You are T-Riffic,” to parallel the new Auxiliary t-shirt fundraiser. SMCH President and CEO, Cindy Carstens, recognized volunteers for their contributions that have led to more than three-quarters of a million dollars for the hospital in its 58-year history. The money has been used to support the purchase of equipment for patient care including: EKG machines; digital x-ray equipment; labor and delivery beds; and a blanket warmer. The Auxiliary raised $67,000 for the hospital in 2016 through their Trivia Night, Table A Fare, linen and books sales and Gift Shoppe. They are currently funding the three-year Patient Centered Healing Environment project to improve areas used by most patients in Lake City, Rockwell City, Lake View and Gowrie medical clinics.
