Area Schools And SARH Gather Up Trophies At 60th Annual Band Day

The Carroll Chamber of Commerce was more than pleased with the turnout and participation in last Saturday’s 60th Band Day. There were several local schools that left the Carroll Athletic Stadium winners on Saturday afternoon, including a third place win for Kuemper Catholic Middle School in the 2A competition, a second place finish for the Carroll Middle School in class 3A, second place for Glidden-Ralston and first place for Ar-We-Va in the class 1A high school competition and third place finishes for Kuemper Catholic High School and Greene County High School, for class 2A and 3A respectively. Roland-Story High School was the winner of the color guard competition, AC/GC’s Margaret Maas was named the top drum major in the parade and the best band award went to Storm Lake High School. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the annual celebration, there was a special “throwback” competition for business and organization parade entries. The winner was St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Nursing Home for their float featuring retired nurses in their original uniforms. The Chamber reports there were nearly 90 floats and 16 bands in this year’s Windstar Express and United Bank of Iowa sponsored event. A full listing of winners can be found below.
