St. Anthony’s Spies Receives DAISY Award For Outstanding Nurses

St. Anthony Regional Hospital has named Mariah Spies, RN, BSN, as the facility’s latest recipient of the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Spies has worked in the hospital’s emergency department for more than four years, providing care to patients during urgent medical situations. She was formally recognized during a May 15 reception attended by family, friends, and coworkers. As part of the award, she received a certificate, a hand-carved sculpture from Zimbabwe, an honoree pin, and a congratulatory banner that will remain in the emergency department throughout the year. St. Anthony President and CEO Allen Anderson says, “Mariah exemplifies the spirit of our hospital’s mission every day in her interactions with patients. She is committed to excellence in all she does and consistently prioritizes the health and well-being of patients during their most urgent times of need. We’re incredibly grateful to have her on our team, providing high-quality, compassionate care to the communities we serve.” Spies was selected from nearly 40 nominees and received three separate nominations. One patient praised her attentiveness, noting she helped ease fears during treatment and followed up the next day to check on recovery. The national DAISY Award was created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 years old from complications of a rare autoimmune disorder, to recognize the profound difference nurses can play in patient treatment and experience.
