Iowa Fuel Report: May 20, 2026

Gasoline prices trended higher as Iowans prepare to travel for the Memorial Day weekend. According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline on Wednesday, May 20, was $4.28, nine cents higher than last week and $1.34 above prices from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday rose by five cents to $4.56 per gallon. Diesel prices, however, slipped three cents to $5.33 per gallon, which is still $1.98 higher than this time last year. The national average for diesel on Wednesday was 32 cents higher than local prices at $5.65 per gallon. Looking at pricing at the Des Moines Terminal, E10 stood at $3.30, Unleaded 87 at $3.86, ULSD#2 at $4.10, ULSD#1 at $4.26, and E70 at $2.59. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were up 14 cents to $3.02 per MMBtu.
