Born on February 27, 1949, in Carroll, Jim was the son of Irvin and Pearl (Koster) Staiert. He grew up with the values of hard work and family on the Staiert farm, eventually taking over the family operation alongside his brother, Denny. Jim wasn’t just a farmer by trade; he was a farmer by heart. This passion extended into his hobbies; he and Denny spent years collecting antique tractors, preserving the history of the land they loved. Jim also collected model toy farm equipment that he enjoyed showing off.
To his family, Jim was the “awesome uncle” who could always be counted on for a laugh. He took great joy in teasing his 11 nieces and nephews and was a proud Great-Uncle to 18 more. Whether it was a competitive game of Pass the Ace or just a simple family gathering, Jim enjoyed time spent with his family.
Jim was also a familiar face in Arcadia. He remained a loyal friend with the “Arcadia Budmen” throughout his life.
When he wasn’t in the field, he was likely cheering on his favorite teams. He was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and he always rooted for the Iowa State Cyclones.
Jim grew up on the family farm with his parents and 7 siblings. He is survived by Richard and Jeanette (Barry) Staiert, Dennis and Patricia (Conlon) Staiert, Lavonne Staiert, Susan and Steven Miller, Lyle Staiert, Jean Staiert, and Helen Staiert.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Pearl; his sister-in-law, Rebecca (Buse) Staiert; his nephew William Staiert; and his grandparents, as well as many dear aunts and uncles.
