The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) signaled strong interest in launching a three-year-old preschool, but timing issues and budget constraints will delay its implementation until at least Fiscal Year (FY) 2028. Superintendent Casey Berlau says their survey found community need and interest in the program, but less than four months to put together an entirely new program is not enough time.
The FY27 budget was on the agenda for finalization last night (Thursday) and was approved unanimously by the board. Berlau says it would have been difficult to find room in an already tight budget for an additional program.
Generally, the board is excited about the prospect but understands the administration’s reasoning for holding off for a year. Board member Hunter Harmening summarizes their position.
As the district will not be adding a three-year-old preschool, the board did not take action during Thursday’s meeting. Berlau says they will likely revisit the issue again after the new budget year begins.
