Registration is now open for the next mental health training seminar by the Seasons Center for Behavior Health and the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. According to Seasons Education Coordinator, Taylor Prather, the March 1 session will teach attendees how to recognize the warning signs of somebody who may be suicidal and what they can do to help them. The name of the course is QPR.
Addressing mental health concerns can be difficult during normal times, but Prather says these skills are more necessary now in the midst of the pandemic. A study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows suicidal ideations more than doubled in June of 2020. Prather says it is likely that trend is continuing into 2021 as coronavirus mitigation protocols remain in place, which makes QPR more relevant than ever.
The two-hour course will be led by Ryan Nesbit, an instructor certified by the QPR Institute. Due to the nature of the material, the session will be taught face-to-face at the church, and seats will be limited to allow for physical distancing. Prather recommends those interested in attending sign up now while seats are still available. Details on how to get registered can be found included with this story on our website. Again, the QPR Suicide Prevention Training is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, March 1 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. For more information about Seasons’ programs or to schedule a session for your organization or businesses contact Prather using the methods also included online.
