District 11 Rep. Craig Williams (R-Manning) outlined last week’s session activity at the Iowa Capitol in his latest newsletter. Williams notes that the legislature did not convene on Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Williams met with FFA members from the Carroll Area, Glidden-Ralston, and IKM-Manning chapters during FFA Day on the Hill, where students asked about agriculture policy, such as a bill he is working on to increase Iowa students’ acceptance into Iowa State University’s veterinary medicine program to address a shortage of large-animal veterinarians. The House this week passed HF2104, a bill that would prohibit the use of eminent domain for carbon pipeline projects, by a 64-28 vote. The measure now heads to the Senate. Williams says it is very unlikely the Senate will accept the House’s bill wholesale, and he sees the likely compromise to be the widening of approved routes that will significantly reduce, or even eliminate, eminent domain use in pipeline projects. Williams also highlights his subcommittee work, including House Study Bill (HSB) 570, which improves victim protections in the state. Williams asks constituents to reach out with questions, concerns, or ideas, as he views his purpose in the legislature as advocating for all of District 11.
