A significant construction project is expected to take over on Highway 175 through Lake View next summer. Interim City Administrator John Gibson says the High Street Bridge is starting to show its age and is no longer meeting the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) standards.
An engineer’s estimate is projecting a $1.2 million price tag for the construction portion. Gibson says that the city and the county will be responsible for the rest which will pay the engineer and inspection. The bidding process is expected to begin February 2026, with an anticipated start date for the replacement in April.
The goal is to have the bridge replaced and the highway back opened to traffic by the end of summer in 2026, all weather dependent and if any construction delays occur. While an official detour has not been established, a route will be mapped around Lake View to avoid significant increased vehicle traffic through the community. The next significant road construction project in Lake View will be the repaving of Hwy 175 starting from Hwy 71 to intersection south of the Spring Lake Golf Course in the fall of 2027.
