Richard Peters of Lincoln, NE formerly of Yale, IA

Richard Fredrick Peters, age 83, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Yale, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Havelock Manor in Lincoln, NE.

Richard was born on November 22, 1939, in Jefferson, IA, the son of Raymond and Charlotte (Smith) Peters. Richard grew up on a farm in rural Guthrie County, IA, and attended YJB schools. In 1962, he enlisted into the United States Army, serving a two-year term, then on reserves for a few years following.

After being discharged from the service, Richard was an accountant for Rosen-Novak Cadillac in Omaha, NE, for many years. Following working at the car dealership, he went on to work for Nashua Paper Corporation in Omaha as a logistics manager for 20-plus years. Richard also farmed part-time back home, raising several animals. Richard loved animals, especially his horses Rocket, Duchess, and Stuart. Richard was a member of the Yale Saddle Club, where he was known as the “Gate Guy” for all the shows. He was also a 20-year member of the Guthrie Center American Legion. Richard also enjoyed cars; he had a Hot-Rod car, a 1939 Plymouth Coupe called “Mayflower.”

Richard is survived by his daughter, Peggie Hoeft of Council Bluffs, IA; granddaughter, Samara Hoeft of Council Bluffs, IA; and one brother, Roy Peters of Des Moines, IA. Preceding him in death are his parents, Raymond and Charlotte.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Adair, IA. Interment with military honors will be held following the funeral at the Dodge Township Cemetery, just south of Bagley, IA.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Adair.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Yale Saddle Club in memory of Richard. They may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.
