John, was the beloved son of John and Janice Coon, born on October 9, 1961 at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa.  He was the oldest of 9 brothers and sisters.  John was Baptized, received his First Communion and Confirmation at Sacred Heart in Early.  He graduated from Storm Lake St. Mary’s High School in Storm Lake and received his Bachelor of Science degree at Iowa State University in December of 1984.  From there he held jobs in St Louis, Chicago, and Milwaukee.  He was employed at St. Anthonys Regional Medical Center in the food service department and at HyVee in Carroll.
John will be remembered most for his everlasting love of sports and how he avidly followed the Iowa State Cyclones as “a loyal son forever true” and Kuemper Knights.  Whenever his nieces and nephews were playing a sport he was their number one fan. If John was not sitting in the stands cheering them on, he was following them on social media.  There was not a stranger he ever met and a name he never forgot. A conversation never left unspoken. If you were lucky enough to be a friend of John’s, you were a friend for life.
John was preceded in death by his father John L. and his niece Chelsey Henkenius; Grandpa Erwin and Grandma Marie Tentinger; Grandpa Leonard and Grandma Genieve Coon.
Those left to celebrate his life include his mother Janice of Carroll; his siblings Jeff (Shelly) of Clive, Janell (Todd) Mulder of Woodward, Joe (Jane) of Clive, Jerret (Sara) of Victoria MN, Jodi (Jim) Henkenius of Lake City, Jamie (Shelly) of Avoca, Jennifer (Chris) Jorgensen of Fort Dodge, and Justin (Jessica) of Fort Dodge; 21 nieces and nephews; 5 great nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
