Esther Heim, age 95 of Lake City, IA, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022, at Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Lake City. Esther Rose Heim was born on June 19, 1927, to parents Joseph and Sophia (Schulte) Koster in Breda, IA. She grew up in Breda and was baptized and later confirmed into the Catholic faith. Esther attended grade school and graduated from St. Bernard High School. After graduation, she continued her education at business college in Carroll, IA.
On October 12, 1948, Esther was united in marriage to Marvin Heim at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda, IA. This union was blessed with four children: Larry, Richard, Bruce, and Mary. Esther worked several jobs throughout her life. She was a telephone operator, school cook, and waitress at the Lakewood Ballroom, East End, and Zekes. Esther was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and a part of the church guild. In her free time, Esther enjoyed crocheting, reading, and playing dominoes and cards.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Larry (Vicki) Heim of Glidden, IA, Richard (Melody) Heim of Auburn, IA, and Mary (Paul) Tonsfeldt of Grand Junction, IA;
grandchildren: Lisa (Jared) Farmer, Lori Heim, Lana (Adam) Melroy, David Heim (friend Kitty Washburn), Craig Heim, Amanda (James) Neil, Tiffany (Mark) Heuton, Sylvia (Jacob) Randolph, Travis (Carly) Tonsfeldt, and Tara (Hans) Larson; 18 great-grandchildren; other extended family members and many friends.
Esther was preceded in death by her son Bruce Heim, husband Marvin Heim, and her parents.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2022, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City, IA, with Father Lynn Bruch officiation. Burial will take place at the St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday. Lampe & Powers Funeral Home of Lake City, IA, are in charge of arrangements.
