Flags in Iowa have been ordered to half-staff through sunset on Saturday, May 28, following an elementary school shooting in Texas Tuesday. The order from Gov. Kim Reynolds was issued in conjunction with President Joe Biden’s proclamation to lower all U.S. flags for the same period of time. Reynolds says, “My heart breaks for all those affected by the tragic and senseless shooting in Uvalde. Kevin and I join with Iowans in praying for all the parents, families, students, and staff involved. No parent or child should ever have to face this unimaginable tragedy.” Flags will be lowered at the State Capitol Building, flag displays in the Capitol Complex, and all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other governmental subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flags at half-staff through Saturday. Texas news outlets report the 18-year-old gunman killed at least 19 students and two adults during the shooting.
