East Sac and Kuemper Go Undefeated in Saturday Tournaments; Carroll Goes 1-1, Falls to East Sac

East Sac and Carroll at Denison Schleswig Tournament

 

East Sac and Carroll faced off against each other and participated Saturday in the Denison Schleswig tournament. In their first round matches, Carroll took on Riverside as East Sac took on Denison-Schleswig. 

 

East Sac started off their match with Denison scoring their lone goal early in the contest. Kayla Meyer passed to Bree Boeckman for a goal two and a half minutes into the first half. East Sac led 1-0 at halftime and kept their defensive game strong in the second half. East Sac ended that game with nine shots on goal enroute to their 1-0 victory. 

 

Carroll took on Riverside in their first match where they performed well. Carroll’s Jayden Kirsch was a defensive force in this game, recording 13 saves. Carroll won the game 2-1 where Emersyn Walsh and Haley Berger each scored a goal.

 

East Sac and Carroll met in the 1st place purple division championship match. East Sac got out to another quick start with a goal from Olivia Villegas one and a half minutes into the contest. East Sac kept that 1-0 lead into halftime and continued to play good defense in the second half. East Sac came out on top, winning 1-0 and being crowned purple division champions. 

 

East Sac took 35 shots, 11 of those on goal. Olivia Villegas scored the only goal and Aleitha Thayer had seven saves. For Carroll, Jayden Kirsch had 18 saves while Emma Hoffman had three saves.

Kuemper at Boone Tournament

 

Kuemper were on the road Saturday where they won both their matches at the Denison-Schleswig tournament. Kuemper faced off against Collins-Maxwell and Webster City. 

 

In their match against Webster City, Kuemper was able to score in both halves and lead from start to finish. Kenya Prescott scored in the first half giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. Kuemper extended their lead in the second half thanks to a goal from Catherine Mayhall, making it 2-0. The Knights kept the ball on the Webster City side of the field for the majority of the second half and wrapped up the game winning 2-0. Ashlyn Badding had five saves and no goals allowed. As a team, the Knights attempted 19 shots.

 

Next the Knights took on Collins-Maxwell where the game was decided in penalty kicks. The Knights got another first half lead where Catherine Mayhall scored a goal to give Kuemper a 1-0 lead. Collins-Maxwell responded in the second half where they tied up the game 1-1. That tie held on until the end of regulation where both teams attempted penalty kicks to end the game. Kuemper was able to win 1-0 in penalty kicks and win the game. In this game, Catherine Mayhall had the lone goal for Kuemper and Ashlyn Badding had nine saves.
