In January and February this area was hit hard by wintery weather. Carroll Police Chief, Brad Burke, says enforcement of the city’s snow ordinance kept officers busy during that time ensuring residents were compliant. Now that spring is here and the snow a memory for at least a few months, it is time to remind residents of other ordinances.
There are also nuisance abatement ordinances regarding unkempt yards.
This is contracted out and the charges are dependent on which business is used. But Burke says, for example, if the city is charged $50 for cleaning up a yard, they will assess that to the homeowner with an added $75 administrative fee. This, he says, could add up to a sizeable bill just to get a yard mowed one time. Burke adds that as people spend more and more time outdoors, and bring their pets with them, they need to be respectful of others and the ordinances in place.
Another seasonal activity for emergency responders is testing of the emergency sirens. It began this past Monday at noon and will done each week through September.
