Wall Lake City Council Hopes To Avoid Major Sewer Renovations By Investing More In Maintenance

The Wall Lake City Council is beginning to explore sewer rehabilitation plans in an effort to save the city and taxpayers money in the long run. According to Clerk, Chris Rodman, the existing system is in surprisingly good shape considering its age, but that does not mean it is free of issues.

He adds the leaking is only really an issue during heavy rain or snowmelt events, but if left untreated, the problem could grow to the point that would force them to completely overhaul the entire system. Instead of waiting for that to happen, the council is hoping to get ahead of the curve by spending a little more money on sewer maintenance than similarly sized towns.

City officials have only just started looking into their options for preventative maintenance, but Rodman says they already have some contacts that should make the process relatively simple.

Rodman adds they can significantly reduce the cost of sewer work if they can avoid including engineering fees in the project. The city council is currently working to identify as many of the problems with their system as they can and will be putting out a request for proposal to contractors once they are ready to move forward. They do not have a set schedule for the work to take place, but Rodman expects it will be completed no later than 2025.
