District pairings were released on Friday morning for the nine area football teams we cover. The most notable thing about the new pairings will be the travel several of our teams will be doing. Carroll heads to Northwest Iowa in Class 3A, IKM-Manning also heads north and west with several trips around Sioux City in Class A. Ar-We-Va and Glidden Ralston are both in 8-Man and will be heading northwest as well. The Rockets have been in this district before but this is the first time Glidden Ralston has been shipped northwest for several years. The rest of the area teams won’t have as much travel. Kuemper and East Sac are together in Class 1A, they are the middle part of the district that goes from West Monona to Treynor and Underwood. South Central Calhoun is also in Class 1A but stayed more north and east accept for Woodward Granger. Audubon and Coon Rapids Bayard are together again in 8-Man and will have a lot of familiar foes the next two seasons.
Carroll district looks daunting on paper with Boyden Hull/Rock Valley, Sergeant Bluff Luton and Sioux Center coming up from Class 2A. The Tigers have faced Heelan, Boyden Hull/Rock Valley and Sergeant Bluff Luton over the past 5-10 years so they are familiar with those trips.
South Central Calhoun district is not a lot different than the past few years with the exception of Woodward Granger. They will continue their rivalry with South Hamilton who they faced twice last season and have a history of tight games with.
Kuemper has faced some of the their new district teams in the past 5 years but will see West Monona and Treynor as new foes. East Sac is pretty much in the same district with the addition of West Monona and Kuemper.
IKM-Manning will have to get used to traveling again as their district is large. Trips to Lawton Bronson, Westwood Sloan and Woodbury Central will bring back some memories for days in the Western Valley Conference.
Ar-We-Va is very used to traveling as they either get sent south to a district that is close or sent north and have to travel which has been the norm the last 5-10 years. Glidden Ralston will be without Audubon, Coon Rapids Bayard and Exira-EHK as district mates for the first time in a long time. Defending State Champion Remsen St Mary’s and Newell Fonda are traditional powers.
Audubon and Coon Rapids Bayard will know this district well with only CAM Anita as a new addition and they both have faced them in the playoffs either last season or the season before.
