The jury trial for a Carroll man charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, class C felonies, has been delayed to September. According to Carroll County District Court records, 18-year-old Calvin Keith Kienast pled not guilty to the charges at the end of March, and his jury trial was scheduled to begin on June 2. However, the case was unable to proceed due to the mitigation measures utilized by the courts as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. On Tuesday, a judge signed an order rescheduling Kienast’s trial to Tuesday, Sept. 15. Because of a backlog of cases, several trials are slated to begin that day and some of them may be moved to the next available court day if needed. The charges against Kienast stem from an investigation by the Carroll Police Department, which alleges Kienast engaged in sexual relations with a 13-year-old victim between June 9 and June 10 of last year. Each class C felony carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
