Russell Heck of Coon Rapids

Russell Heck, age 80, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Unity Point – Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

    Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Pleasant Ridge Community Church near Glidden with Rev. Chaun Bergmeier officiating.   Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale.

    Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday evening.  The casket will be moved to Pleasant Ridge Evangelical Free Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

     Those in attendance at Russ’ visitation, funeral, and graveside service are asked to abide by Covid – 19 Social Distancing Guidelines.

     Russell born on September 20, 1939 in Ft. Lupton, CO, and was the son of Harold and Jessie (Hight) Heck.  His family moved to a farm north of Glidden when he was a young boy where he grew up.  He attended country school until 7th grade, Immanuel Lutheran School from 7th to 8th grade and he graduated from Glidden High School.  He was married to Theadora “Kay” Evans on June 25, 1961 the Congregational Church in Hartington, NE, by Pastor Warren.  The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Coon Rapids where they raised their family.  The Heck’s attended Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids for many years and Pleasant Ridge Evangelical Church for the past 10 years.  Russ’ passion was his faith in Jesus Christ and spreading the Gospel through his kind and encouraging words.  The couple has wintered in Arizona since 1991 near their daughter Annette and family.  He enjoyed socializing, fellowship with his church family, lawn bowling, and farming, farming, farming.

     Russ is survived by his wife Theadora “Kay” of 59 years of rural Coon Rapids; his children: Evan Heck (Karen) of Corydon, IA, Annette Jones (Joe) of Phoenix, AZ, Todd Heck (Charlotte) of Coon Rapids, and Glenna Quinn (Stephen) of Bellevue, NE; nine grandchildren: Kayleigh Jones (fiancé Jake Effron), Rowna Heck, Max Jones, Clayton Heck, Sarah Heck, Annah Heck, Claire Quinn, Noah Heck, and Jamie Quinn; a sister Donn Hein (Junior) of Glidden; a sister-in-law Gloria Evans of Wayne, NE; several nieces and nephews.

     Russ was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Jessie Heck; his mother and father-in-law Glen and Clara Evans; and a brother-in-law Dennis Evans.
