Scammers Are Posing As IRS Agents Verifying Stimulus Data

Law enforcement agencies across the country are warning residents that scammers have jumped on the delivery of stimulus money to residents and are using it in attempts to get personal information. Some callers claim to be members of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and ask you to provide your bank account number and/or social security number as verification for the delivery of the up to $1,200 direct deposits. The IRS will NOT call you about these payments. The federal aid packages will be deposited into bank accounts of the person with the associated social security number they have from past tax filings. Those not designated to receive their funds through direct deposit will be receiving a check in the mail. Never give out your personal information over the phone. If you receive such a call, simply hang up.
