Mike Collins of Lake City

Lake City-Mike Collins, 66, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Stewart Memorial
Community Hospital in Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Lake City Union Church in Lake City with Pastor
Randy Russom officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Iowa Veteran’s
Cemetery in Adel. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lampe Funeral
Home in Lake City.
Michael Dean Collins was born on June 13, 1953, in Jefferson, Iowa to Willis and
Phyllis (Green) Collins. He attended school in the Paton-Churdan district until his
Junior year when the family moved to Lake City where he graduated in 1971. He
then served in the United States Navy from 1971-1975 and later attended
Southwestern Community College. On May 20, 1989, Mike married Kathy Durst
in Lake City. Mike worked as an electrician and for 37 years at Stewart Memorial
Community Hospital before retiring on May 18, 2018. He was an EMT for 35
years, a member of the American Legion, and a 25 year member of the Lake City
Fire Department.
Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years Kathy; step-children Meredith (Don) Baker
of Essex, Shannon Lee of Boone, and Joshua (JoAnn) Lee of Ames; grandchildren
Kelli, Elizabeth and Olivia, Slayde, and Jada, Keegan and Jesenia; and sister
Debbie (Shadric) Smith; and niece, Megan (Joel) Sievers and their children, Clavin and Logan of Auburn.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
